A 2007 Poll Supports Dissident Inclusion
In May/June, 2007, the San Diego Gay & Lesbian Times took an online poll with the question, "Does the AIDS dissident movement have a place in the current discussion about HIV/AIDS?" The end result was 66% YES, so the following week, they printed this article: "AIDS dissidents: blinded by pseudoscience or asking the right questions?" by Pat Sherman (07-Jun-2007). The article, which was a grand attempt at fairness in the current political climate, can be found here.

HEALSD Honors Medical Marijuana Activists
On December 6, 2005, medical marijuana activist
Barbara
MacKenzie returned to HEAL San Diego to accept our "Sister Kenny" award for
challenging medical orthodoxy. Barbara accepted the award both on her own behalf and
on
behalf of her late partner in life, and fellow medical marijuana
activist,

and
her challenge to the medical/pharmaceutical complex in defense
of a
substance that has been used as an herbal remedy for thousands
of years. Email Barbara.

In Memoriam: Eliza Jane Scovill
In May, 2005, Eliza Jane Scovill, the daughter of Robin Scovill and Christine Maggiore of Alive & Well passed away after a short illness. You can view Eliza Jane's memorial websites at ejlovetour.com and justiceforej.com. The debate over the cause of Eliza Jane's death continues to spark controversy. A front page article in the L.A. Times in September, 2005, stated that Eliza Jane's death was AIDS-related pneumonia, but an independent follow-up investigation by Dr. Al-Bayati reported that the cause of death was an allergic reaction to a prescribed medication. Read the story by ABC News here. Read a summation article from June, 2006, by Celia Farber here. Read the 2007 articles exonerating EJ's doctor from negligence here (shifting the investigation's focus to the coroner who falsely claimed that EJ died of pneumonia).

Liam Scheff Speaks to HEALSD
Liam Scheff spoke at the October, 2004, meeting of HEAL San Diego. His visit came on the heels of his New York Press article, "Orphans on Trial", which exposed the force-feeding of experimental AIDS drugs to abandoned children. Liam challenged HEAL to stop talking only about AIDS and to broaden our discussions to include the failures of Western/allopathic medicine in general, and the successes of natural pathways to health, including diet.
